I would like to set up regular walks for my dog. What do I do next?
We can definitely set up a regular walk appointment! First, we will meet with you and your dog in a consultation. We will discuss your walk needs and your dog's history (how long have you been together, what are his habits and behavioral issues, does he have any allergies or take any medication, etc). Then we will discuss your options as far as walk packages and scheduling.
What should I have ready for my consultation?
Please have your veterinarian's information ready, as well as any allergies and medications. If there is an emergency, we need to have the most information possible to best take care of your dog. Please also have the contact information for an additional emergency contact in case we can not reach you in the event of an emergency. Also, if this will be a recurring walk appointment, please have a spare key ready and any access cards, key codes, or alarm codes necessary to access your home or apartment building. Finally, come prepared with questions! Choosing a caregiver for your dog is an important decision, and we want you to feel comfortable with choosing Lucie's Friends.
Who will be walking my dog?
Lucie's Friends' main dog walker is Tiffany (see our About page for more information). If there is a scheduling conflict or emergency, our backup walker is Scott. Both walkers are fully insured and trained in canine first aid, so no matter which one of us is walking your dog, he will be in the best possible care!
What happens if there is an emergency with my dog while he is in your care?
Lucie's Friends' dog walkers are trained in canine first aid, so we are the first line of defense in an emergency. We will contact you as soon as possible following an incident so you are fully aware of the incident and the steps taken to take care of your pet. If we are unable to reach you, and the incident is escalated, we will attempt to reach your emergency contact. In addition, Lucie's Friends is fully insured with Pet Sitters Associates. This means that any incident that happens while your dog is is our care will be handled according to our insurance policy.
How many dogs will my dog be walking with?
We never take your dogs in "pack walks" unless you specifically request this. Your walk appointments are priced for single dogs (additional dogs within the same household or family are $2-4). Some dogs are not comfortable walking with other dogs and we want to make sure all of our dogs are completely comfortable on their walks. If you would like your dog to have social time with other dogs, please let us know! We can arrange for a park day with other friendly dogs so your dog can make some friends.
What does each walk appointment consist of?
Each walk appointment (potty trips and 30 minute walks) includes refreshing your dog's water, checking the temperature in your home, giving your dog lunch or a snack if you request this, administering any medications, and plenty of love and pets! Please let us know if there is anything else you would like us to do when we visit (turn on/ off lights or the television, bring in mail/ newspaper, etc).
Do you offer pet sitting services?
Yes! We offer pet sitting services in your home only. We offer two different pet sitting options: daily visits or in home sitter (we stay with your dog at your home). If your dog is comfortable spending most of the day alone at home, daily visit pet sitting could be the best option for you. Daily visit pet sitting includes three visits per day: two potty trips (morning and evening) and one midday 30 minute walk, plus daily meals and house sitting duties. You can also choose to have a pet sitter stay in your home if your dog is not comfortable spending the day alone, which includes two potty trips per day (morning and evening) and one midday 30 minute walk, plus daily meals and house sitting duties. What is your inclement weather policy?
Just like people, many dogs do not appreciate walking in heavy rain, hail, or snow. In most cases, we will only do potty trips in this type of weather. If you have purchased a single 30 minute walk or a 30 minute walk card, we will credit you for the difference for your next walk or card.
What are your holiday rates?
On the following holidays, all walks are billed at double the normal rate: 4th of July, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Years Day. If you have a walk card, your card will be charged for two walks on these holidays. Pet sitting will be billed at a 50% increase only on the actual holiday, not necessarily the entire length of your pet sitting package.
How do I pay for your services?
We accept cash and personal checks, and all credit cards through PayPal. For walk cards, payment is due before your first walk appointment. For single walks or pet sitting appointments, payment is due upon completion of the service.
